Dutchess County Seeks Applications for Human Rights Commission Members

Poughkeepsie… Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro and Chairman of the Legislature Dale Borchert have announced applications are being accepted to serve on the Dutchess County Commission on Human Rights. Individuals who are dedicated to the cause of human rights and seek to ensure Dutchess County is an inclusive and respectful community for all are encouraged to apply. There are three open positions, each for a three year term. Applications are available online at www.dutchessny.gov/humanrights. Application deadline is December 29th, 2017. All appointments are subject to confirmation by the Dutchess County Legislature.

County Executive Molinaro said, “Dutchess County’s Commission on Human Rights serves a vital role in fostering mutual respect and understanding. We welcome interested individuals to consider applying and learning how they can be a resource for those who feel they have been subject to bias or discrimination.”

Legislature Chairman Borchert said, “Ensuring Dutchess County is a place where all individuals feel respected and included is a priority for all of us and we are grateful to those who are willing to give of their time and talent in this important mission. We encourage residents to spread the word about this opportunity to serve on the Commission on Human Rights and help create a stronger, more connected our community.”

The Dutchess County Commission on Human Rights is a 15 member body that serves in an advisory role and is charged with the responsibilities of addressing discriminatory practices, attempting to resolve such practices and serve as an efficient referral of complaint materials to the New York State Division of Human Rights in the event a resolution cannot be reached. The Commission seeks to foster mutual respect and understanding among racial, religious, nationality, disability, LGBT and other groups in Dutchess County. The Commission acts as a resource for the community to identify discrimination, address the issues and work with those involved to stop the behavior.
